A Church’s Guide to Effective Graphics

A Church’s Guide to Effective Graphics

Visual communication is just as important as written and verbal communication, especially since humans are able to process visuals 60,000 times faster than text.  Well designed social media content will help you catch the attention of your audience, as well as help them to process and understand the message you are trying to convey. When it comes to creating content for your church’s social media you want to make sure you are following consistent brand guidelines (e.g. having a set color palette, logo, font types, etc.) because this will help build brand awareness and recognition.

It can be intimidating when the time comes to actually create and design content for your church, especially if you are not a graphic design wiz. However, it doesn’t have to be that way.

First thing first, as a member of Digital Church University, you get access to our Graphic Design Suite. Each quarter, we add new template designs for your church to edit and use! We upload it into Canva for you to have premier access to it and make it your own (while talk more about this platform soon).

Best Practices When Creating on Canva

Canva is a great, free, easy-to-use design platform that gives everyone the opportunity to create high-quality, professional, captivating visuals. The platform is beginner-friendly with tons of drag-and-drop templates so that you don’t need to have any design experience to create appealing and engaging visuals.

Here are a few simple tips that you can utilize to make sure your content design is on point:

  • Pair decorative fonts with simple fonts

When using a decorative font, like Playlist Script, make sure you pair it with a simpler font, like Montserrat classic. Strategic font pairing helps to keep information easily readable and also establishes a hierarchy between the heading and supporting information.

  • Keep your color palette consistent

When creating your content you want to stick to a basic color palette because this will help with brand recognition and will allow your social media page to look cohesive. If you have to use colors outside of your set brand color palette make sure they are complementary to your palette.

  • Emphasize your call to action

It is important to make sure the most important information is highlighted. You can do this by using a different font, color, or font size. However you do this, you want to make sure your reader can easily point out what it is you want them to do or understand.
